“Be all you can be!” “Be the best version of yourself.” These are just a couple of the most popular phrases being hyped at the start of a new year. People tend to be more energized and determined to make this year their best year. I say, “Go for it!”
To get started, people ponder:
What does it mean to become the best version of yourself?
What does it take to become the best version of yourself?
Is it worth it?
To become the best version of yourself requires you to possess a vision of the person you want to be in the life you want to live. To achieve success, you need to know your unique self well. To obtain self-knowledge requires self-reflection on the ways you respond to the world around you. Knowing your strengths, weaknesses and values as well as what motivates and demotivates you, will help you create action steps. Your action steps will help make your vision come to fruition.
Take a look at the holistic life wheel. These are the five areas of a person’s life.
How fulfilled am I in each area of my life?
What areas are working well in my life?
What areas are not working well in my life?
Do I want to do anything about my situation?
If you want any area of your life to be better, you will need to create goals and continuously strive to learn and grow. Being all you can be requires practicing personal leadership. Knowing who you are and what you want out of life; knowing what success means to you; knowing what your goals are; and knowing that you are going to achieve those goals regardless of what other people say, think or do is the essence of personal leadership. Personal leadership requires emotional fortitude and courage.
The hardest part of becoming the best version of yourself is getting out of your comfort zone. Some people prefer to accept the status quo and would say changing is not worth the time and effort. Others just can’t take it anymore and have a desire for betterment. Everyone possesses the power of choice.
Getting out of our comfort zones requires shifting our thoughts and responses to world around us. This is not easy for anyone! Many times, I have found that I was the only person getting in my way. Either negative thinking, fear or resistance kept me stuck. Each time I was able to bounce back and move forward, I made a new, refreshing batch of lemonade. The juice was worth the squeeze!
Everyone can choose how they want to live their life. It is my hope that you will strive to become the best version of yourself this year. You CAN make 2018 YOUR best year.
